Defense Minister Joseph Beti Assomo made a discreet but notable visit to Moscow in recent days to sign a new military cooperation agreement between the two countries. A symbolic move as the Kremlin relaunched its offensive in Ukraine.
Cameroon and Russia signed a new military cooperation agreement on April 12. The minister delegate to the presidency in charge of defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, had left Yaoundé the day before for Moscow, where he spoke with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Choïgou. It was the latter, a member of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle , who initialed the thirteen-page document for Russia.
The content of this agreement has not been revealed by the Cameroonian presidency but it would resemble that signed in 2015 with the same Russian Federation. At the time, the agreement was concluded with Alexander Fomin, in charge of “military-technical” cooperation with foreign armies and current Russian Deputy Defense Minister.
