Edo State has registered eight monkeypox cases after their positive test for the cruel virus.
Residents in the state have been urged to maintain safety measures to curb spread of the virus and other infectious diseases.
Professor Akoria Obehi, the State’s Commisioner of Health discloses this yesterday to journalist. She said the ministry has ramped up surveillance and other activities to control the spread of the infectious disease.
She also said all eight cases diagnosed have been treated and have recovered.
The commissioner highlighted symptoms of the disease include, fever, headache, weakness of the body, sore throat, and enlargement of glands under the jaw and in the neck.
She said it can also come with the appearance of rash on the face, pams, soles of the feet, generals and other parts of the body. The rash can appear solid or fluid-filled at the onset.
It was said that the rash can manifest within a period of two to three weeks following infection, depending on the immune system of the individual.
Mrs. Obehi, also urged people to avoid unprotected contact with infected animals, humans, their belongings and other linen. Wash hands regularly and use sanitizer when water is not available.
